How to Resolve the Problem of Intersecting Grooves in Polyester Fiber Acoustic Panels
One of our customers recently encountered a problem while using an oscillating knife cutting machine to groove polyester fiber sound-absorbing panels: two grooves formed an intersection, leading to over-cutting at the groove junction. This article explains the root cause of the issue and provides step-by-step instructions on how to resolve it effectively.

Table of Contents

Step 1: Confirm Proper Installation of the V-Grooving Tool

The first step to resolving this issue is to ensure that the V-grooving tool is installed correctly. Improper tool installation can lead to misalignments in the cutting process, contributing to intersecting grooves.

Once the tool is correctly installed, you can move on to checking the machine’s compensation settings.

Step 2: Check the Compensation Data for Groove Line Spacing

Next, inspect the compensation data related to the spacing between the two V-groove lines. This data controls how the machine adjusts the position and depth of the grooves, ensuring they don’t overlap or separate excessively.

View Compensation Data on the Control Panel:
Access the machine’s control panel and locate the compensation settings related to the V-groove line spacing.

Click the "Configure" button, then click the "V Cut" button. At this time, we enter the data setting interface of the V-grooving tool and view the data of the red-boxed position.

Correct Settings for Grooving Depth ≤ 9mm:
If the grooving depth is less than or equal to 9mm, the compensation data should fall within the range of -0.5 to 0.5.
This slight adjustment ensures that the grooves do not cross or separate over too much, allowing for a clean and precise cut.

Step 3: Resolve the Intersection Issue

If the compensation data is outside the recommended range of -0.5 to 0.5, this will likely cause excessive intersection between the grooves, leading to over-cutting.

For example, in one case, the customer had set the compensation data to 9, which caused the grooves to intersect significantly.
Solution: Simply adjust the data back to the correct range (-0.5 to 0.5) to achieve the desired grooving effect.

Conclusion

By ensuring that the V-grooving tool is properly installed and the compensation data is set within the correct range, you can prevent the issue of intersecting grooves. Small adjustments to the machine’s settings make a significant difference in the accuracy and quality of the grooves, ensuring flawless results in your production process.
